What happens on the course?
The course covers the basics of rugby – running, passing, catching and playing as a team – in a safe and fun environment with the club’s trained coaches. It suits everyone aged 16+ regardless of background or fitness, and you can join at any point during the course.
What to bring?
Sports clothes, a water bottle and football boots or trainers.

Who is the free beginners’ course for?
The course suits everyone aged 16 and over, whatever their sporting background or size, and groups are formed by experience. Taking part is free, and you can join at any session during the course.
What language is the training held in?
Training is mostly in English. Some of our players translate instructions into Finnish and Swedish when needed, so language is no barrier to joining.
What happens after the course?
After the course you can carry on at the club’s open sessions: touch rugby on Thursdays at Töölö sports ground 6 from 20.00 to 21.00, and skills training on Sundays in November at Liikuntamylly. Helsinki Rugby Club has a women’s team in the championship league and two men’s teams – the Big Guns in the championship league and the Blue Tigers in the second division – so there is a place for players of every level.

Rugby is a versatile team sport of running, passing and playing together. The free beginners’ course is an easy way to try it: experienced players coach the sessions, groups are formed by experience and everyone progresses at their own pace. Helsinki Rugby Club is Finland’s oldest and largest rugby club, and new players are always welcome.
